Boost Your Productivity with the Best Chrome Extension for Time Tracking

The Importance of Browser Extensions

Browser extensions enhance the functionality of your web browser, allowing you to customize your browsing experience to suit your needs. They can help improve productivity, block intrusive ads, automate common tasks, and even add new features to your favorite websites. One such extension that can significantly boost your productivity is Clockify Time Tracker.

Clockify Time Tracker: An Introduction

Available on the Chrome Web Store, Clockify Time Tracker is a free extension that allows you to track time from anywhere on the web. Whether you're working on a particular task, browsing websites for research, or simply surfing the internet, Clockify helps you keep track of where your time goes. The goal of this extension is to aid productivity by providing detailed insights into your time management.

Key Features of Clockify Time Tracker

  • Idle detection to ensure accurate time tracking

A common complaint among the dissatisfied users is the application's lack of functionality with other applications like Basecamp and Chrome Browser.

Providing a balanced perspective on positive and negative reviews

It is crucial to provide a balanced perspective when reviewing an application. While the Clockify Time Tracker Extension has received some negative reviews, it is important to note that there are also positive reviews. Users who have rated the application highly praise its efficiency, helpfulness, and thoroughness. Therefore, potential users should consider both the positive and negative reviews before deciding to install the Clockify Time Tracker Extension.

Comparisons with Similar Extensions

A. Compare the reviewed extension with similar extensions

When comparing the reviewed extension, Clockify Time Tracker, with similar extensions such as Tracking Time | Time Tracker Button and Webtime Tracker, several similarities and differences can be noticed.

Like Clockify, both Tracking Time and Webtime Tracker provide tools to track the time spent on various tasks and web activities. However, while Clockify integrates with over 50+ web apps and features such as idle detection, reminders, and a Pomodoro timer, Tracking Time focuses more on integrating with productivity tools and online services without the need for any setup. Webtime Tracker, on the other hand, provides a detailed analysis of time spent on individual websites along with the total browsing time.

B. Highlight key differentiators and unique selling points

The key differentiators for the Clockify Time Tracker are its wide range of features and extensive app integration. It stands out with its idle detection capability, a feature which is not commonly found in other time tracking extensions. This feature proves beneficial as it helps to provide a more accurate representation of the time spent actively working.

Another unique selling point is the Pomodoro timer feature, which aids in productivity by breaking work into intervals separated by short breaks. Moreover, with its open-source code, Clockify provides transparency and invites contributions, which is a unique approach not often seen in other similar extensions.

C. Provide recommendations based on these comparisons

  1. If you're looking for a time tracker with the most comprehensive set of features, Clockify Time Tracker is the recommended choice. Its wide range of features like idle detection, reminders, Pomodoro timer, and extensive app integration, give it an edge over other similar extensions.
  2. On the other hand, if you require a simple, no-setup time tracker that seamlessly integrates with your productivity apps, Tracking Time | Time Tracker Button would be the recommended extension.
  3. If your focus is on understanding your web browsing habits and getting a detailed analysis of time spent on individual websites, Webtime Tracker would be the best fit.

Conclusion

Overall strengths and weaknesses of the extension

The Clockify Time Tracker extension is a powerful tool that allows users to track time from virtually anywhere on the web. It integrates seamlessly with over 50+ web apps, effectively increasing productivity and efficiency. Features such as idle detection, reminders, Pomodoro timer, automatic start/stop timer, and the ability to start a timer from selected text, highlight its strength. The extension is also open-source, allowing the tech-savvy users to contribute to its growth and development.

However, the extension's request for permission to "read and change all your data on the websites you visit" can potentially be seen as a weakness or a cause for concern among privacy-minded users. Although the developer has clarified that this permission is used solely for functionality and can be disabled, it may still deter some users.

Final verdict on whether the extension is worth trying

In conclusion, the strengths of the Clockify Time Tracker extension significantly outweigh its weaknesses. It is a handy tool that can substantially improve the user's productivity and efficiency. The transparency of its operation, its open-source nature, and the developer's responsiveness in addressing concerns further add to its value. While the extension's data access permissions may raise eyebrows, a clear explanation and an option to disable this feature make it a minor concern. Therefore, it is definitely worth trying.

Benoit Burke

Works well for 98% of the things I need to get done. Makes it easier to track most of my tasks through Clockify since my work is mostly web related. One thing I wish would not happen is if you start a new timer and you open up the description and your writing anything in the description text box and you happen to click away from the box, it will disappear along with all of the text you wrote in the box. I'm sure this could possibly be addressed in upcoming updates. The developers put out pretty consistent updates.

Oksana Day

Stopped working a few days ago and just stuck on infinite loading loop

Clinton Williams

Suddenly just stopped working in Chrome Browser (which is all I use) after latest Chrome update. I'm even paying for this service and it is consistently not working.

Letcher Tech

Completely broken just stuck in infinite loading loop. Edit: Reinstalled the extension, fixed the issue.

Laura R

Does not work with basecamp at all.

Gary Guthrie

I LOVE this app. It's efficient, it's helpful, it's thorough, it puts everything in the right place. Plus, when I've had an issue -- and there have been only two small ones -- the support staff was quick to help. Solid!

youtrack.js is out of date, none of the queries that trigger clockifyButton.render will not hit. Please update these so that this works with YouTrack please.

Felipe Simões

Overall works fine, but integrations suffer for a while after platform updates. Since ClickUp moved to its 3.0 version, the timer on Clockify erroneously imports all tags from the subtasks when starting the timer in the main task.

Sunny Suggs

Same as others - unable to drag and drop. Vid - https://app.screencast.com/JEAgBhY9wMv2q

Steven Flecha

Same as other feedback here - few days ago it suddenly broke Asana. Had to disable my extensions one-by-one to find out it was Clockify. When using with Asana you can't drag & drop tasks in any view anymore basically making the complete platform useless.

Collin Burton

I'm seconding what Tom Morgan said. This plugin was updated today, and I suddenly found I couldn't move Trello cards or lists on the boards by dragging. I could still move them by clicking the "move" option, but that's not nearly as easy, especially if you have a lot of cards and lists and the order matters. Once I disabled this plugin, the Trello functionality returned.

Tom Morgan

After the last Trello update in October, the timer button on the front of the Trello cards disappeared. With today's update the button is back but with the Clockify Chrome extension enabled, one cannot drag and drop on the Trello board (cards or lists). Turning the extension off re-enables drag an drop. Please fix this.
